A Short Biography

A Star Is Born

Mark Sherak was born in Frankfort Germany while his family was stationed there after World War II. military. Being in a military family, I lived in 14 different places before I was 8 years old.

Family Life

Growing up with a big brother 9 years older than me and a little brother 7 years younger than me was a challenge. My father was an active Scoutmaster for all of us boys and I became the family's first Eagle Scout in 1973. My Eagle project heavily involved my using my new found hobby to lead Catholic guitar masses in Black Forest for a couple of years.

Boy Meets Guitar

If there was a defining moment in my life, it's when I met my best friend "Henry" (see Music page). Henry is a 1961 Guild D 25 that I bought used in 1970. We have been seen together in a large variety of places with a huge variety of pickers and listeners for the last 40+ years.

Boy Makes Own Family

The other source of utter joy in my life comes in the form of 3 boys and a little girl. Adam, Matt, Nathan, and Megan are God's pure gifts to this world. All of them enjoy the good things in life: love, music, the outdoors, and above all: the Lord Jesus.

Boy Meets Soul Mate

In late 2005, after 51 long years, I finally met my match. On June 7th 2009, the beautiful and incredibly talented Kimberle Burke, took my hand in marriage. In proper Mark fashion, it was a full Scottish wedding with the groom and all his groomsmen bedecked in kilts at the Meadow Creek Bed and Breakfast - on the very spot where we met.

Boy Meets Critters

We met Brenda Darveau through Craigslist while attempting to buy a larger cage for our baby female cockatiel named Fred (what else?). Brenda has an incredibly huge heart for rescuing exotic birds that no longer have a home. Since then we are the proud parents of Lilly the umbrella cockatoo, Hedwig the goffin cockatoo, Molly the quaker parrot, Charlie, Michael, Bubba, Pearl, and Buford the cockatiels, Ricky and Lucy the parakeets. With the perpensity of the birds to sit on our shoulders, and doing what birds do, we fondly dub our home in Evergreen the (pardon the French) "Shit Shoulder Inn" or SSI for short.
